How to troubleshoot issues with screen sharing
Updated over a year ago

All Ballpark surveys or tests have been optimised to allow participants to share video, audio and enable screen sharing so users can get rich user feedback for their tests. Some participants may have trouble sharing their screen during a test/survey. Here's how to troubleshoot any issues you might come across.

When participants begin any Prototype task in Ballpark, they will be asked to enable their webcam, microphone and screen share. You can learn more about how to enable camera and screen sharing access here.

Chrome and Edge

We recommend using Chrome where possible for the best experience building and conducting surveys and tests. The Edge browser runs off Chromium so it's pretty much the same!

How to reset permissions

If you accidental block Ballpark, you can change the permission in the browser settings.

  1. Open Chrome or Edge

  2. At the top right, click More (3 dots)

  3. Click Settings

  4. Click Privacy and security

  5. Click Site settings and then Camera or Microphone.

  6. To allow a site that you have already blocked: Under 'Not allowed', select the site's name and change the camera or microphone permission to 'Allow'.

If MacOs users or participants are still experiencing issues sharing their screens, the privacy permissions in your macOS system preferences may not be enabled.

Troubleshooting issues on MacOS

To address this issue, you will need to adjust your macOS system preferences to allow screen recording for Chrome. Here's how you do it:

  1. Open your System Preferences

  2. Open Security & Privacy

  3. Scroll down the left side list until you find the Screen Recording options

  4. In the apps list, find Chrome and ensure that the app is allowed

  5. You will be prompted to restart Chrome in order to see the changes. Once that is done, you will now be able to record your screen, independently of the screen sharing option you choose before starting a Ballpark.
