What are AI Interviews?
AI Interviews combines the deep, qualitative insights of moderated interviews with the scale and reach of quantitative research. Interview 10 participants or 1,000 at the same time, getting conversational depth at survey scale.

How AI Interviews work with your research
The AI Interview step works alongside all existing steps in a Ballpark study. You can pair AI-moderated conversations before or after card sorts, prototype tests, surveys, or any step type you're already running in Ballpark.
When you add an AI Interview step, you can set your main question, provide a discussion guide, and define how deep you'd like the conversation to go. All questions and steps in your study are read aloud to create a natural, conversational experience throughout.
Creating an AI Interview
Open any study in Ballpark
Select Add step → AI Interview
Enter your main discussion question
(Optional) Select Options → AI Instructions to add a discussion guide
Adjust the number of follow-up questions in Options (set to 0 to use it as a conventional speak-aloud step with no follow-ups)
Tips for effective AI Interviews
Main question: Start with an open-ended question that invites detailed responses
Discussion guide: Use AI Instructions to provide context, topics to explore, or specific areas to probe
Follow-up depth: More follow-ups create deeper conversations but take participants longer to complete. Set follow-ups to 0 to use the step as a conventional speak-aloud prompt with no AI moderation.
Voice: Choose from 6 available voices on the Study settings ⚙️ to match the tone of your research
Viewing your response data
You'll find the recordings and conversation transcripts in your study responses, data table and summary page. This includestranscripts, AI summaries, and key topics pulled out automatically.
