The legal question step lets you present a statement that participants must accept before they can continue with your study. It is useful for compliance, privacy, and general legal requirements.
When to use legal consent questions
Obtaining informed consent from participants to collect data.
Requiring participants to agree to terms and conditions.
Presenting an NDA or confidentiality agreement.
Ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
Note: If you need to have consent before the participant enables their camera, then add a screener question instead.
Adding a legal consent question
Open your study and go to the Build tab.
Click Add step.
Select Legal question.
Type your consent statement or question.
Add a description with the details participants need to review.
How it works for participants
Participants see your statement and must accept it to proceed. If they decline, they cannot continue with the study.
Pro-tip: You can add links into the description to send participants to an online NDA or terms and conditions page.
Next steps
Place consent steps early in your study, ideally right after the welcome message. For more on structuring your study flow, see add questions to your study or use conditional logic.
