Security settings for participant share links

Password protect, schedule expiry or instantly deactivate a share link

Updated this week

You can add security to your survey or test share links in three ways: password protection, expiry dates, and deactivating links when needed.

Password protection

Password protection adds a simple layer of security to your share links. Anyone trying to access the link will need to enter the password you've set.

How to add password protection

  1. Select any project

  2. Click Share

  3. Under Advanced security settings, turn on Password protect

  4. Enter your password

  5. Click Set password

How to remove or change a password

  1. Click Share

  2. Turn off Password protect, or click Reset password to enter a new one

Setting an expiry date

You can set your share links to automatically stop working at 11:59 pm (UTC) on a day you choose. This is useful for time-limited research or when you want to control how long people can access your survey.

How to set an expiry date

  1. Click Share

  2. Under Advanced security settings, turn on Set expiry date

  3. Choose your date

  4. Click Set expiry

How to change or remove an expiry date

  1. Click Share

  2. Choose a new data from the picker and Save to change the date, or toggle off Set expiry date to remove it completely

Deactivating your share link

If you think your current link might have been shared too widely, or you want to stop people from accessing it, you can deactivate it. This will make your current link stop working completely, but you can generate a new one later.

How to deactivate your share link

  1. Click Share

  2. Under Share link status, click Deactivate share link

  3. Confirm that you want to deactivate your current link – this action can't be undone

Your old link will stop working immediately, and anyone who tries to use it will see an error message. You can generate a new link whenever you need one.

Note: Share link security settings will also impact recruited participants.
