Creating a secure password for your Ballpark account

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Ballpark helps people do rich research by collecting insights from real people. So it's very important that the information inside your account is secure.

This means that you aren't able to set weak passwords that could be easily guessed.

Passwords that can't be used in Ballpark

You might be be prevented from creating a password for your account if it contains:

❌ Less than 8 characters

❌ Common password patterns (password123, welcome1, etc.)

❌ Sequential characters (abc, 123, etc.)

❌ Common character substitutions (p4ssw0rd, l3tm31n, etc.)

Tips for secure passwords

Our minimum requirements for passwords are a great starting point. Here are some tips to ensure that your passwords can be even more secure.

Use long passwords

While we require at least 8 characters, we recommend that you use 12+ characters if possible!

Use a passphrase

Combine unusual or random words that are not common. Then make it memorable to you, but no one else. You can try to use a mental image or create a story to help you remember.

Example passphrase:

A password using the phrase muffin-flower-banana-motorbike could have a story like "I made a muffin, smelled a flower, ate a banana, then rode a motorbike".

Avoid common words/phrases

Ensure you aren't using simple words/phrases like:

password, qwerty, welcome, abc123, letmein, admin, football, iloveyou, monkey

Repeating or simple patterns

Sequential, repetitive and simple patterns of letters and numbers are easy to be guessed, for example:

1111, 1234, aaaa, abcd, 202020

Don't use personal info

Be careful not to use personal information like your name, birthdate, a pet's name etc.

Don't reuse passwords

You should have a unique password for each different service you sign in to.

Use a password manager

Password managers are tools that can help you generate, store and enter strong passwords.
